ASU Hosted Fall Tournament

6 USD attended the ASU hosted tournament. With three freshmen in our ranks (Rosie, Byron, and Nancy) it was a great first tournament experience! Byron Riemhofer landed his first jump ever! Adam Jones and Mac Sparks both got jump scores in the 50ft range. Rosie Bates and Nancy Schneider got up and show great potential in all three events. Katie Smith got a PB in slalom by running 32 mph and getting 1 1/2 at 34. We look forward to huge growth as our team gets out to practice more and more on our new/newly fixed Ski Nautique.

Homecoming Weekend Sunrise Skiing

San Diego, CA – Calling All Alumni! Calling All Alumni! USD Homecoming Weekend (October 16-18) is just around the corner, and the USD Ski Team would like to invite all of you to its 1st Annual Alumni & Friends Sunrise Ski morning! Get up early Sunday to enjoy some of Mission Bay’s finest glass behind the team’s new Ski Natique!

What: Sunrise Skiing
When: October 18th, 7am
Where: Hidden Anchorage, Fiesta Island

You will be guaranteed 4 passes for the first round, and if time permits, we’ll be holding a “Spin to Win” competition (ski two levels below the pass you haven’t run at a tournament, and ski until you can’t hold on any longer!)! We’ll have bagels for breakfast, so there’s no excuse not to get out of bed Sunday morning to relive your college ski days!

2009-2010 Opening Meeting & Info

This is just a reminder to sign up for Club Waterski!! It is going to be a great semester, especially b/c we are now skiing on a much younger boat! Tournaments start up pretty quickly, so we need to get a jump on meetings and practices. We will be having our first meeting this Thursday at 7:30 (I will let you know the room later). I know all clubs and classes are trying to squeeze in meetings this week, so I understand if there is something urgent and you cannot attend. We will be signing a bunch of stuff for the semester, so please, if you can’t make it and are still interested in skiing, let me know and we can schedule another time. The meeting shouldn’t take long at all.

Before the meeting:
-Sign up for the club!!!! You can choose to sign up as a course if you want to get the 0.5 credit. EITHER WAY YOU MUST: sign up through campus rec:

You will need: Insurance info, car/licence/licence plate info/car insurance (if applicable), credit card/campus cash
(STOP! If you are paying via cash or check, DO NOT register on-line. Please go to the Recreation Office located at the Sports Center (by the pool) to register in person with your payment in hand Monday – Friday between 9am-5pm. Please note that you are not allowed to participate in any program, club, or class until the payment is received. )

If you have any problems with this please bring all info to the meeting and I can help you!

Also, for new members: I will be avail after the meeting to explain the team, tournaments, and practices in more detail!! We are excited to have new people!

Teskila Sunrise Produces Numerous PBs

El Centro, CA – After a weekend out in the scorching desert of Southern California at a watering hole called “Imperial Lakes,” the USD Ski Team returned to San Diego with PBs for all those who competed! Junior Ramon Smith ran his first pass at a tournament posting 6@28 – 15 off and 2.5@30 – 15 off! Bryce Lewis, a graduate student, earned his first buoy at a tournament with 2@28 – 15 off! Throughout the weekend, Junior Katie Smith and Sophomore Chris Blay were neck and neck competing for 1st place on the team. Going into Sunday, both had run 2.5@32 – 15 off (a personal best for Katie and a tied tournament personal best for Chris) and had trick scores of 450, a personal best for both! All that stood in the way of the victor was jump. Chris landed 2 out of 3 jumps with longest jump of 39 feet. Katie bested Chris landing 2 out of 3, but with a longest jump of 48 feet, beating Chris by 9 feet!The team is looking forward to the Bakersfield tournament where they all hope to better their scores.

Local Tournament Yields Successes

San Diego, CA – Congratulations to Danielle Encinas for placing 4th in Women’s slalom after being abroad all last semester! Also, congratulations to Amanda Walker for almost landing her first jump and Mac Sparks for landing a 33 foot jump!

Team Shows Strong Showing at National Qualifier

Arvin, CA – After a weekend of competition at the Ironwood Ski Ranch, the young USD Ski Team performed exceptionally well, narrowly missing the qualifying spot. Congratulations to first time Jumper Mac Sparks for landing a 30 foot jump! Congratulations to Ramon Smith for landing a 45 foot jump, and Chris Blay for landing a 42 foot jump! Also, congratulations to Amanda Walker and Lindsey Dowling on a successful first tournament!

Spring 2008 Davis and Bakersfield Tournament Yield Success

Rio Linda, CA and Arvin, CA – Over the past two weekends, although attendance has been minimal, the USD Ski Team had great individual success at the two tournaments. At the Davis Tournament, Katie Smith ran a personal best, 24, 26, 28, and 3 @ 30 in Slalom. At the Bakersfield tournament, Chris Blay also ran a personal best, 26, 28, 30, and 4.5 @ 32. A congratulations is deserved by Kendra Stanley for competing at her first tournament at Davis! The team hopes to have a strong showing and performance at the next tournament in El Centro, CA.

ASU Ski Tournament

Barstow, CA – After a weekend of skiing and a not so successful Saturday of skiing, the ski team rebounded from initial upsets on Sunday. For the women’s jump team, Katie Smith single handedly placed the team in 4th place after landing 4 jumps (one re-ride for judge’s error). In men’s jump, all three jumpers, Ryan Fisher, Adam Jones, and Chris Blay, landed 2 out of 3 recorded jumps, all of which were their first times landing a jump in the event. The team looks to carry Sunday’s success into next weekend’s Regional Championships in Chico, CA.
