The University of San Diego Water Ski Team is a competitive collegiate tournament water ski team that is a member of the Western Region of the National Collegiate Water Ski Association (NCWSA).
Collegiate Water Ski tournaments are three-event formate, consisting of slalom, trick/wakeboard, and jump. Water Skiing is a co-ed sport, with both men and women’s scores counting equally towards the overall team score. The Water Ski Team competes both the fall and spring semesters with competitions hosted by various schools in a range of cities in California, Arizona, and Washington. Typically, there are 3 to 5 tournaments that the team competes in each semester. You can learn to compete very quickly, so don’t worry if you’ve never seen a slalom course or a pair of jump skis!
The University of San Diego Water Ski Team has access to a Master Craft boat and practices in Mission Bay and at various private lake locations. Very few USD athletes have any competitive water ski experience before joining the team. Tournament water skiing is very challenging; however, through hard work and dedication, the team can improve and be competitive. If you have basic water ski experience and are looking for a fun challenging sort with an opportunity to develop new skills and meet a lot of new people, water skiing could be the perfect sport for you!
